VOTE FOR THE MASSACHUSETTS COX CONSERVES HERO - OUR VERY OWN MATTAPAN RESIDENT
Boston 25, in partnership with our parent company, Cox Enterprises and the Trust For Public Land has announced Shavel’le Olivier as the winner of Massachusetts Cox Conserves Hero Award. The award program recognizes environmental volunteers across the country working to improve outdoor spaces.
Growing up as a youth participant with the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition, Shavel’le gained an early appreciation for Mattapan’s existing green spaces. Fast-forward nine years and Shavel’le now encourages other teens to transform pockets of Mattapan into beautiful, healthy, open spaces residents can enjoy. Under Shavel’le’s leadership, teens help organize the annual Mattapan on Wheels Biking event and staff a seasonal farm stand outside the local health center. Shavel’le also writes grants and secures funding for teen employment related to food access, increased physical activity and environmental issues.
As Boston 25’s local winner, Shavel’le will receive $10,000 to donate to the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition. Now she’s competing against winners in other cities in a national vote. She’s in the running for an additional $50,000 award to support her conservation efforts. Voting is open to the public now through October 15. Let’s all help Shavel'le win the big prize!
