While Boston’s icy roads and freezing temperatures have kept many of us inside for most of the weekend, don’t let the cold weather keep you from feeling your best. As the ice melts and the weather gets warmer, there are many activities awaiting your attendance. Even if the weather doesn’t let up soon, there are still ways to keep your body moving indoors.
We have compiled a handful of activities hosted by MFFC and other organizations in and around Mattapan throughout the rest of this month and into March.
🧘🏿 - Relax and Stretch with Free Online Iyengar Yoga
All experience levels are welcome to join the Iyengar Yoga Association of New England and the Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition for free virtual classes every week. Every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m., the Active Yoga classes are a great way to get a physical workout that is still accessible for abilities of all kinds. The IYA and MFFC recommend props – a yoga mat, strap, and two blocks – to enhance your experience.
For a more gentle workout, the Restorative Yoga class every Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. is designed to help your mind and body relax. For this class, it is recommended you prepare a chair, three to four towels or blanks, a pillow, hand towel, and strap of any kind. To register, send an email to MFFC’s Active Living and Environment Coordinator, Kay Savage, at savage.mffc@gmail.com.

While the Mattapan Square Farmers Market won’t be back until the summer months, the nearby Roslindale Winter Farmers Market (Sundays through March 30th) and Dorchester Winter Farmers Market (Saturdays through March 15th at Codman Square) are great ways to spend time outside and pick out fresh, locally grown and sourced produce.
🎨 - Try your hand at a new activity
Whether you are a senior looking for something new to try or a youth preparing yourself for college and beyond, the Mattapan branch of the Boston Public Library offers a variety of events for residents of all ages. Whether you are interested in picking up new knowledge and computer skills, in search of career counseling, or would like to have a fun afternoon playing board games, check out the events the library has to offer.
